How to lose belly fat and get a flat stomach
Belly flab is not only unsexy but it also shows unhealthy eating habits and neglect towards exercise. For many people, the stomach is the place where they are most likely to put on weight and that’s the most difficult area to lose the excess fat as well.
It is very easy to get into a bad routine because of the hectic lifestyle that we all have. Fast food and quick meals are convenient because they save us time from our busy schedule while exercising is not seen as an important thing. The society has moved towards an office environment and most of us sit on a chair in front of a computer for most part of the day. The lack of physical activity combined with convenience eating gets you into a sluggish body and the longer it takes you to realise that you’re neglecting your own health, the harder it’s going to be to shift the weight and tone up.
Where does the body store fat and how does it do it?
We need energy to perform our daily activities and this comes from the food that we eat. Our metabolic rate determines how much food we should be eating and any excess calories that we consume will be stored in as fat. When we need extra energy, it will come from this reserve.
For a lot of people, the excess fat will be stored around the belly area but this is really determined by genes. When fat is stored on the stomach, the body will spend less energy to carry that extra layer when you move around than if it was to store it somewhere else. However women tend to put on weight around the stomach, hips, breasts and buttocks as that’s nature’s way to create a more curvy physique to attract men.
How to get a flat stomach?
There are two important things to do if you want to lose the belly fat – diet and exercise. If you try unnatural ways of losing weight, you might put your health at risk. You should note that if it has come to a point where you are unhappy with your physique or you long for a better looking body, then you need to make drastic changes to your lifestyle and that includes the way you eat.
If you think that doing crunches repeatedly will get you a flat stomach when you have a sagging belly, then you’re completely wrong. The first step is to lose the fat that has accumulated on your stomach and for that you will have to do whole body exercises. This will make your body burn the maximum number of calories it can.
Home workout to lose the belly fat
You don’t need to go to the gym and this simple exercise will burn about 150 calories in 10 minutes. Remember to wear proper shoes and follow the instructions while remaining in place. Count to 30 for each set and repeat the process one more time:
- Start with marching
- Then jog while raising your arms over your head
- Continue with jumping jacks
- Followed by a simulation of jumping a rope
- Finish by raising your knee while lowering both arms towards it
Eat the right food
Going on a diet does not necessarily mean cutting back on food but making changes to how you eat. If you like having chocolates or crisp as a snack, then without doubt you will need to stop doing that if you’re serious about losing weight. Foods like this do not provide any nutritional value and are high in calories which you want to reduce. It is a good idea to have more meals but with smaller portions. Fresh vegetables and fruits are great for your health and fish & chicken are good sources of protein. People have different taste so it’s better you find out what good food is best for you. Just keep in mind how many calories you’ll be taking in and eat a balanced diet every day.
So can I expect a 6 pack abdomen?
Sure. If you’re determined to get rid of the belly fat and replace it with a 6 pack, there’s nothing stopping you. However you will need to lose the fat first, otherwise your toned abdomen will be hidden by the layer of fat. So concentrate first on cardiovascular exercises & aerobics and do regular short but intensive sessions of exercise.
Once the belly is out of the way, you can start working the abdomen and the exercises which are best to give you that ripped look are the following:
Normal crunches with the knees up (with the help of an exercise ball)
Oblique crunches on an exercise mat (to get rid of the love handle)
Exercising and good dieting is not only good for looking great but it also makes you feel great inside. You will be healthier and more energetic and your life will be so much more exciting. So don’t procrastinate and start doing your body some justice.
